Untitled XXXIV

Have you heard of the redwood tree?
Whose shade provides, grants life and peace
Sunlight falling among its leaves
So gently fulfilling both its
Inner and outer well-being

Have you heard of the redwood seed?
The stone-hard shell in which it sleeps?
The world beyond this world, unseen.
Heedless thus of beauty hidden
In its inner reality

Have you heard how the redwood grows?
Fire must test this seed of stone
Hard shell reveals through cracks and groans
Soft heart to rise to the heaven’s heights
Who first must leave coarse self below

Have you heard of the redwood tree?
Whose ashes provide life to seeds
From shell to tree, by fire set free
When hard trunk cracks, what is released?
Heights unknown & life-giving dreams.
